Flights from UK to UAE

It's proving difficult to return to UAE due to all the flights being booked.
Apparently the offer from Emirates has been so successful ahead of Ramadan
that Emirates have overooked all flights.
Now what does that mean to business people and holiday makers?
Some may get pissed off that they can't get on a flight.

I will see if I can get on the Etihad 09.20am on Sunday, which is taking some overspill from Dubai.

We shall see!

I think shopping today.

My colleague has my suite for the weekend, so I guess I will get back to wrecked room which has seen loads of debauchery (Not).

Trying to leave Abu Dhabi

This is coming to the quietest time for the Middle East with most locals opting to leave.
What happens this year when I want to leave?
Emirates does a special for holidays and all Emirate flights are full until 7th Sept.
Then I try other airlines. They are full or are putting their prices up.

What is this world coming to????

Just another driving story

Driving down a major road 5 lanes and it's busy coming home from work.
There is traffic waiting to merge from the left (outside lane for the left hand drivers)
There is a car that has entered into the outside lane, but for some reason doesn't want to continue, so what does he do?
Yes he is reverse back along the fast line!!!

Yet another traffic horror

Just past Abu Dhabi airport on the road to Dubai I was about to go into the inside lane and turn off to my hotel.
Doing about 100km/hr there were some coaches or something in front and I slowed down and then I saw brake lights come ( this ain't right I thought).
As I approached there was an overturned mini van with its top torn off.
Inside bodies and limbs all over the place.
Loads of people stopping to jump out and help, which meant the way ahead was empty for me!!!
Can't say from what I saw too many survived!

Another Driving story

Yesterday I was driving back to my hotel.
This is quite a big road and isn't used very much.
The road has 3 lanes either side and a service road.
A taxi had crashed. No one else involved and apart from a car that had stopped to help
no other car was around.
The taxi had managed to hit a post. It completely demolished the front of the car with most hanging off.
The post was on a pavement!
I can only think that the taxi driver had fallen a sleep at the wheel.
This was at about 6.30pm so I am not inspired about a family taking a taxi!

If an Arab doesn't get the price he feels he should get, then he won't sell not matter what the market is like!

So In Dubai there are 100's of thousands of apartments and villas empty because they want to keep the market up.
Basic economic suggests that there is a supply and demand effect to anything.
People have left Dubai and although visitors are up these are only holkiday people.
These people don't count on 2 points (1) they are not in Dubai to work (2) arabs don't believe in holiday lets.

More Background

In UAE the of a local is that the government builds a block of homes or offices and allocates it to a local. During the lifetime of the building the local pays the government a rent until the set fee for building is paid off.
Before this time part of the rent goes into the locals pocket. After the amount is paid back then all of the rent goes to the local, hence their pension.

Back to Dubai

So a law was passed that the allocated owners of the buildings of the new developments must ntake over the management and the maintenance.
Hence the current problem!
Many buildings with noi tenants because the woner didn't get their amount of rent.
Current tenance has to be taken over by the local, but they are already in debt as they have been paying some back.
So where is the money going to come from.

SO I gues one of 3 things can happen
(1) the Government lets them off the debt
(2) Rents must be halved
(3) Nothing and the buildings start to rot and crumble

Are Arabs frustrated left-hand drivers?

Bare in mind that the UK has in one way or another been heavily involved with the Arab peninsula over the many years and of course this brings some cultural mutations.Well I think driving is one of them.
Currently, the arabs drive on the 'wrong side of the road' however, they are always on the outside lanes.
This morning on a 5 lane highway, most were in the 4th lane. Some even moved to the 4th lane so that I could overtake in the 3rd lane. Wouldn't it be easier and safer to change all to the left hand drive side?

We went to a quiz night at the hotel Park Rotana which was busy and nice.
The quiz was odd, you filled out questions with no announcement.
Of course the American contingency in our group ( no names) decided to get the highest score by looking on their Iphone for the answers.
The organizer came back and said
"Good and Bad news!"
" the good news is that you had the highest score, but we know you used an Iphone! so the bad news is that you can't have the prize"
"However we will give you AED 200 vouchers to show good faith"

Pretty decent of them I thought, not that I took Part, I was too busy chatting and smoking an Havana Cigar!!
Oh yes! and a pint of beer.

Nice night but feel jaded today

Jubboes galore!

At the bottom of the small road from the hotel, there is a set of traffic lights.
This morning they were RED so my taxi stopped.
From the opposite side of the road a pick up truck came around the bend and promptly turned into the space next to us, the completely wrong way and side of the road!

I was confused as to why he did this, but I guess that the Asian driver would have been even more surprised if there was a car next to us blocking his way!!

Abu Dhabi today

The Radio 2 English radio station is amaturist, but it's one of the better one's.
Last night they had a quiz of 3 questions and one of them was " what does a bee take" and the contestant said " oh guys you are making it easy I am a chef " so what is the answer then?" " It's honey of course!"
Dong!! " I am afraid you are wrong and the correct answer is Nectar!"
How funny was that about the pratt who thought it was easy!!

There was a crash on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway closing all lanes.
Eventually they contacvt some guy who said " the police have cleared it all now and the lanes are open, so it will be moving good in about 10-15 minutes" The radio guy says " So I guess the police have cleared it all now and the lanes are open, so it will be moving good in about 10-15 minutes" Errh this is a recording! What an inane thing to do.

Same guy has the "whacky world of Rakesh" which is about as whacky as sleeping.His imagination just isn't there and obviously doesn't look at any unusual web pages to get his content.

This morning 2 small coaches on the inside lane had their left indicators on to turn left. I said " surely not!" Wrong yes they cut across 4 lanes to left at Traffic lights!!

A mate of mine was good when he lived in Abu Dhabi. He knew one of the radio presenters and would call up and they would ask "who is on the line" and he would say "Mr W. Anker" and such things.

Emancipated Man who is Constipated!

I may feel sometimes that I am emancipated, but to be honest, I am also constipated by the ethics of todays life!

My question is whther we are better off today, than in say 1955 when I was born.

The man worked and the woman was at home looking after the house and the kids and everyone knew their place in society.

Today it's totally confusing.
We have caused it ourselves as well as government.How?

1. We have become used to spending too much and being materialistic, so the wife has had to go to work if the man cannot provide
2. Government i.e. Labour has ensured that women get places in companies and in politics, not because they deserve it, but because they feel it is right.

This confuses the whole issue of female and male!

Some women get a career, but at the same time want to have children and the 2 are not compatible.
I remember being with my Mum the whole day and she taught me how to behave, how to cook, how to be clean etc.
Today's age, the women have a child, and then 6 weeks later hand the child to a carer for the whole day and then come back to collect the child, when it's time to go to bed. This is not good for children.

As my friend says women are becoming men, so we MEN are almost Gay!!! Interesting thought.

This is very sad and is most probably, most of the cause of todays cultural problems, as there is no basic family life anymore. In  Italy and France at least the Grandparents rule and MUST be respected and the family gets together at weekends for lunch.

What happens in the UK? Everyone has meals at different times and hardly talk to each other. What kind of society is this?

It will take a brave and very long term government to correct this, so it won't happen again in the UK.
So my constipation and pain will continue until I die I think!

Weekend in July

Yesterday was in Dubai having Breakfast with my daughter.
Then I met with my friend Terry and we had a lovely time chatting and then went to the RitzCarlton for afternoon Tea. Very pleasant!

Working today (Saturday) to try and get ahead of things.
I am still enjoying the project and working again with my friend Paul who is the Project Mgr

Temp has been between 40-50c so we can't do too much during the day, like sit outside.

TV is not good. I get BBC News BBCPrime which seems to have the same quiz programme on or Casualty all the time.
I get some American programmes. Just found out that Jazeera has lost the Premier league and it's with AD sports so I need to check if I get it

Sharing EU Nationals persoanl Data with Israel

Thanks goodness the Irish have some sense. They have just blocked with a single vote the sharing of ALL individual data to the Israeli's!! Where was the UK??

After the Israeli's managed to get fake I.D's from British and Irish nationals why on earth would the EU consider this? Because again they are bloody idiots and too busy in their own corruption to actually take stock of what is being passed before their eyes.

Surely the UK Prime Minister should have been alerted to this by our own MEP's. No they were obviously getting tucked into a nice dinner and a side bit on the UK tax payer to worry about it.

WELL DONE the IRISH!
However, not all is lost by the Israeli's.
All it means now is a number of debates to try and convince th Irish that's it's futile to stop the PC's and wankers in Federal Europe (i.e. Hitler land) doing what they want to do anyway.
I guess ISrael may be changed to a " Friendly country" then it will be ok of course!

Again this backs up my view on the UK legal system and how the Judges are not on this planet. Not only that it was a female Judge most probably a Mother who allowed this to person to go free!!

Unbelievable piece of driving (Not!)

6 am driving along the same piece of highway as yesterday's comment a Red Mazda cx9 overtakes my taxi and my driver said " look at that Sir!"

A guy (local) with his car on cruise control and him lying down almost flat steering the car like a lugge event in the Olympics!.

The guy obviously dozing. How on earth do they expect not to crash if they do this.
Anyway if you see a red Mazda CX9 (SUV) with the number plate AD 36043, avoid it like the plague!!

Useless driving

7am my usual taxi driver carefully drives along an empty piece of road while I am reading the newspaper.
All of a sudden a big swerve and big press on the horn.
Yes! from behind some local on his mobile and a cigarette in his hand that is holding the wheel is approaching a junction and all of a sudden realizes he needs to be in our lane. Fortunately, my driver saw him in the mirror.
The guy just swerved in front of us.
Then he slowed down to carry on talking to his jubboe matey.
When we passed and I looked at him, he didn't have a care in the world.

Anyway whatever he is in I need to be on it as well!!!!

Petrol up another 14% in UAE

Petrol is up 28% in the past 3 months after 2 hikes.
Now let me get this right.
Petrol is about USD70 a barrel and it costs them about USD5-8 a barrel to get it out of the ground.

So why is it increasing so much?
Greed I guess, as they have to pay for the collapse of Dubai, which will take at least 5 years to correct and even then if a substitute for Petrol isn't found, which I am sure there will be.

News flash - 23 million people have used the new train system! According to press release
What utter nonesense, but it looks good!

Dubai has a population of about 1.8 million (if that).
The metro has been open since 09.09.09 starting with a line 52 km long and going out to an industrial area.

When I have seen the metro it's always empty and of course the traffic is still as bad.

So 1.8 million would have to live in the same area of Dubai and travel every day on this one line that is opened partially (not all stations are open). Expats and European visitors would not use the Metro!

I think the figure is nearer to 1.3 or 2.3 million people.

I never quite figured out why the sexual urge of men and women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing. I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart.


FOR EXAMPLE:

One evening last week, my girlfriend and I were getting into bed. Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says, 'I don't feel like it, I just want you to hold me.'

I said, 'WHAT??!! What was that?!'

So she says the words that every boyfriend on the planet dreads to hear...

'You're just not in touch with my emotional needs as a woman enough for me to satisfy your physical needs as a man.'

She responded to my puzzled look by saying, 'Can't you just love me for who I am and not what I do for you in the bedroom?'

Realizing that nothing was going to happen that night, I went to sleep..

The very next day I opted to take the day off of work to spend time with her. We went out to a nice lunch and then went shopping at a big, big unnamed department store. I walked around with her while she tried on several different very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take, so I told her we'd just buy them all. She wanted new shoes to compliment her new clothes, so I said, 'Let’s get a pair for each outfit.'

We went on to the jewellery department where she picked out a pair of diamond earrings. Let me tell you... She was so excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck. I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis.

I think I threw her for a loop when I said, 'That's fine, honey.' She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement. Smiling with excited anticipation, she finally said, 'I think this is all Dear, let's go to the cashier.'

I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, 'No honey, I don't feel like it.'

Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled, 'WHAT?'

I then said, 'Honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman.'

And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, 'Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the things I buy you?'

Apparently I'm not having sex tonight either... but at least the bitch knows I'm smarter than her.
